HISTORY

THE BEGINNING

1936: Josef Amort, who runs Karlsbader Hütte, built Dolomitenhütte in his favourite place on the way between Lienz and the Lienz Dolomites. After initial difficulties, the chalet could at first only be opened in winter and, with a lot of patience and convincing the authorities, then also in summer.

THE 1ST RESTRUCTURING

1989: after 2 intermediate lessees, Hans Wibmer took over Dolomitenhütte at the end of the 80s and managed it with dedication for 18 years. In the meantime, access had been ensured in the form of an asphalted toll road.

IT BECOMES ICONIC

In 2007 the Oles family became the owners of Dolomitenhütte. It was renovated and generously restructured. This ensured that Dolomitenhütte would become a gem of the Lienz Dolomites for generations.

THE COMPLETION

In 2012 the Oles family built rooms below the current panoramic terrace with a phenomenal view towards the Lienz local mountain, Spitzkofel. A further step towards making Dolomitenhütte a memorable experience.

THE CHALET

THE CHALET

THE CHALET

Simply unforgettable – the new DOLOMITENHÜTTE. Nestled into the landscape, as spectacular as the peaks of the Dolomites. Built of the very wood that gives the forest all around its high mountain character, larch. The chalet – traditional, unique, cosy. A picture-postcard chalet – larch shingles, an open fireplace, two terraces, traditional cuisine with local specialities. Furthermore, the new rooms with a wonderful view of the Dolomites invite you to spend unforgettable hours at an altitude of 1616 metres.

THE GUEST ROOM

An edelweiss, carved into thick leather, surrounds the menu. As rustic as the chalet itself. It lists traditional chalet fare and fine specialities made primarily from local products.
The choice will whet your appetite. First a freshly tapped beer at the bar, then an espresso afterwards with a piece of homemade cake on one of the terraces. Cosiness instead of crowds.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES

HIKING

You can hike to the chalet or set off from the chalet. Ascend from the valley and enjoy the chalet as a destination. Or you can leave the forest border and hike from the chalet towards the Dolomites. To Karlsbader Hütte at the lake Laserzsee, for example.

A little walk becomes a great experience if you walk from Dolomitenhütte to the Instein chapel, which is nestled charmingly below the imposing Laserz rockface, not far from a romantic lake.

Walk towards the sun.

VIA FERRATA

Via ferrata are enjoying increasing popularity among all age groups. They make exercise in the high alpine region possible for a wide target group. The secured, easy climbing along defined routes will also make you an alpinist. Experience the wonderful mountain world from close up and feel the adrenaline when you climb along a thin rope 200 metres over the precipice.

MOUNTAINEERING

The Lienz Dolomites have always been the “training centre” of legendary mountaineers such as Toni Egger (first to summit Cerro Torre/Patagonia), Sepp Mayerl (first to summit Lhotse Shar, 8400 metres) and many others. From here they went on to conquer the highest mountains in the world. And young mountaineers still compare themselves to the great role models. The Dolomites rock is the best climbing rock, whether it is difficult routes or secured via ferrata. The Rudl-Eller trail, which leads directly to the foot of Laserzwand, is a challenging route from Dolomitenhütte to Karlsbader Hütte and some peaks can also be reached without alpine climbing abilities. Climbing mountains is scarcely more beautiful than here.

SPORT CLIMBING

They stick to the rockfaces like green lizards: the sport climbers. It is not the peak that is the aim but the difficulty of the challenge. The rockfaces around Dolomitenhütte are divided into six sectors. The approx. 100 routes with wall heights from 10 to 45 metres range up to the 8th difficulty level. The rockface is largely vertical or even overhanging and dries quickly even after rain. Sport and alpine climbers meet afterwards at the chalet to exchange experiences.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The tour from Lienz to Dolomitenhütte is THE training trail for every local biker. It takes a good two hours to achieve the approx. 1080 altitude metres along the asphalted road. However, the record times are under 40 minutes from Palösling to the chalet door. If that is not enough, you can continue along a gravel track even higher up to Karlsbader Hütte. Whatever your choice – before the enjoyable descent into the valley you can replenish your energy on our terrace or in the chalet. Dolomitenhütte bike tour - www.probike-lienz.at
